My Day at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Medical Support Assistant (MSA) GS-679
What’s it like to serve as an MSA? Well, it’s really, really busy. There are a lot of things happening and the human element is strong in this type of work. That means you are communicating with Professionals all day long and you need to be able to speak some of their language to work efficiently. This is where knowledge of medical terminology is crucial but there is much more that you must be good at. Such as, computers, typing speed and accuracy, mechanical ability to keep copy machines and printers running, and much more. Fortunately, a year of working in a private doctor’s office is enough to prepare you to work at the entry level in this field.
